2009 Merlot

Estate Merlot 2009

Walla Walla Valley, Washington

WINEMAKER NOTES

A wine for those who love good Merlot and a new perspective for those who don’t. Walla Walla’s climate is made for Merlot. Fruit ripens to perfection—not over-extracted, not too many tannins—but concentrated, with expressive characteristics. Elegant aromas of dark stewed and dried fruits, pipe tobacco and exotic spices. The mouth gives generous flavors of plum, blackberry, caramelized sugar, and mocha. The finish is deep and rich with long, smooth, silky tannins.

ACCOLADES

Stephen Tanzer’s IWC Nov/Dec 2012 – 88 POINTS. “Good dark red. High-toned aromas of black cherry, blackberry, licorice and chocolatey oak. Smooth, sweet and lush without coming off as heavy, offering nicely concentrated flavors of black raspberry, black cherry, mocha and smoked meat. Finishes with good lingering sweetness, but the dusty, building tannins ultimately turned a bit dry.”
