History

The Basel family moved from Vancouver Washington to Walla Walla in 1996 leaving behind a life long profession.  Arriving in Walla Walla the decision to plant vineyards seemed to make sense, as the property was located next to Pepper Bridge Vineyards. Thirty two acres that consist of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah were planted. Four years later, after selling fruit to Walla Walla Valley Wineries Greg and Becky Basel decided to keep the fruit from Pheasant Run Vineyards and go into the wine business.  March 2003 the doors to Basel Cellars Estate Winery were open for business. The first vintage was 2001. In 2004 the Hansen Family, good friends of the Basel's joined in as partners.
